The participant must already have completed the Full SCIP-R course and be current with their CPR certification. \nTo become a certified SCIP -R Instructor\, you must: \n1. Fully complete the SCIP -R Instructor’s training program. \n2. Assist in teaching each section of the SCIP- R curriculum with another SCIP – R Instructor at least once. \n3. Teach the complete program under the observation and supervision of a SCIP – R Instructor-Trainer. \nAgencies must be able to provide trainees with parts 2 and 3 of the certification. Additionally\, personal challenges and family stressors can complicate their situation\, leading to a constant juggling of competing demands. \nStress First Aid (SFA) provides a framework of practical actions designed to reduce the risk of stress reactions escalating into more severe or long-term issues. The Stress First Aid Model is a self-care\, leadership\, and peer support approach tailored for high-risk professions such as the military\, fire and rescue\, and healthcare. This training highlights seven essential actions to help you identify and address early signs of stress in yourself and those around you. \nThis program is presented by George Wurzer\, LCSW and Julio C. González Martínez of the STRYDD Center at Northwell Health. \nGeorge Wurzer\, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker since 1994.  He currently serves as the Program Manager for the STRYDD Center at Long Island Jewish Medical Center of Northwell Health.  Prior to his appointment with the STRYDD Center he served as the Director of Children’s Services with the Mental Health Association of Nassau County for 28 years. Mr. Wurzer consults to local school districts for children with ASD and has presented to both schools and clinics on best practices for children on the spectrum. \nJulio C. González Martínez is Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Exceptional Education and Learning Department in the School of Education at the State University of New York at Old Westbury.  He serves as Lead Education Specialist for the STRYDD Center (Supporting Trauma Resilience in Youth with Developmental Disabilities) at Long Island Jewish Hospital and Northwell Health.  Dr. González has a clinical practice in eastern Long Island where he works primarily with immigrant children with special needs and their families. \n

DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 7th from 10:00 am – 11:30 am \n“Supported Decision-Making Creating a Future of Autonomy & Competence for Persons with Intellectual and / or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)”\nThis workshop will discuss the exciting shifts in attitudes and practice that result when Supported Decision Making (SDM) is implemented in place of guardianship. By gaining an understanding how SDM differs from guardianship\, participants will learn how the Supported Decision-Making New York (SDMNY) project has enhanced the self-determination\, independence\, inclusion\, and dignity of individuals with I/DD\, while preserving the right to legal capacity and decision-making power in their lives. The presentation will explain how the SDMNY facilitation process works with a wide spectrum of persons with I/DD and autism. The presentation will also discuss the impact of the new SDM law. DESCRIPTION:Members $250/Non Members $325 \nThis class meets via zoom November 11th and 12th from 10am-3pm each day. \nIn this hands-on training\, you will learn how to use Microsoft Excel to gather\, analyze and report on key performance metrics for your organization. You will be guided through every step of the process\, including: \n  \n* Learning how to create user friendly data entry forms in Excel that ensure that the data you get is the data you need \n* Aggregating the data in a structured manner to ensure its ready for analysis \n* Selecting and performing analyses for each set of data that will provide your organization with the information it needs \n* Reporting on your analysis in a concise and effective manner \n* Numerous quality of life “tricks and tips” to help you work more efficiently and create more visually appealing spreadsheets \n  \nIn addition\, this training will cover essential statistical concepts\, such as central tendency\, standard deviation and control limits\, which are crucial tools for interpreting and reporting on data that you’ve gathered. \n  \nA basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel is necessary to gain the full benefit of this course\, including navigating Excel the use of common functions such as SUM()\, AVERAGE()\, etc. This training will not require the use macros or scripting languages. Each participant will need to have a computer with Microsoft Excel installed in order to practice the techniques taught during the training. \n

Participants will also learn appropriate calming techniques\, preventive strategies to de-escalate adverse situations & proper techniques for physical intervention when all else fails.  This training covers CORE techniques.  Staff seeking training must work in OPWDD-certified settings.\nClass Dates: November 12th and 13th 9am-6pm\n\nCancellation Policy: Registrations for Single day classes canceled with less than 24 hours notice will not be refunded.  Registrations for Multi-day classes canceled with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded.  No shows will be charged the full registration fee.

D’Amico\, Ph.D.\, ABPP and George Wurzer\, LCSW of the STRYDD Center at Northwell Health \nFREE FOR MEMBERS\nThis training will cover the following topics: \nUnderstanding Trauma and Its Impact on Individuals with IDD \n\nExplore the effects of trauma on individuals with IDD and the unique challenges they face.\n\nImplementing Trauma-Informed Care Practices \n\nLearn about effective strategies and interventions to create a supportive and healing environment for individuals with IDD.\n\nBuilding Resilience and Promoting Well-Being \n\nDiscover ways to foster resilience and enhance the overall well-being of individuals with IDD through trauma-informed approaches.\n\nGeorge Wurzer\, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker since 1994. He currently serves as the Program Manager for the STRYDD Center at Long Island Jewish Medical Center of Northwell Health. Prior to his appointment with the STRYDD Center he served as the Director of Children’s Services with the Mental Health Association of Nassau County for 28 years. Mr. Wurzer consults to local school districts for children with ASD and has presented to both schools and clinics on best practices for children on the spectrum. \nPeter J. D’Amico\, Ph.D.\, ABPP A child and family psychologist working with trauma for over 30 years. Dr. D’Amico joined LIJ Medical Center in 1999 and has served as Director of Child and Adolescent Psychology since 2005 where he has supervised multiple milieu based programs\, school consultation and grant efforts related to childhood trauma. He is currently the Principal Investigator for the SAMHSA supported National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) site for Supporting Trauma Recovery for Youth with Developmental Disabilities (STRYDD Center) since 2016 and he previously developed grant sponsored trauma recovery programs in the NY Metro community following September 11 and Superstorm Sandy. Most recently in response to COVID-19 Dr. D’Amico assisted in the development of the new Trauma Center at Northwell Health which has been offering Stress first Aid and resilience coaching to our health care workers and now the school and local community. Dr. D’Amico has been boarded in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology since 2004\, and he is a certified therapist and trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). He is also a trainer for the Unified Protocol for Children and Adolescents and an Advanced Facilitator and Trainer for the Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma \n  \nThis is a free training\, but registration is required.
