Agencies often face resource limitations that force one individual to wear multiple hats, such as those of a compliance, privacy, and security officer. While practical, this structure can weaken controls, create skill mismatches, and lead to self-auditing situations when IT Directors also serve as security officers. Establishing clear boundaries among these roles enhances accountability, strengthens oversight, and improves both compliance and data protection outcomes.
About the Presenter:
Dimitris Bantileskas, CPA/CFF/CITP, CVA, CFE, ISACA Cybersecurity Audit Certificate, is a Partner at Nawrocki Smith LLP, specializing in cybersecurity audits, forensic accounting, and internal audit services. With over 20 years of experience, he leads cybersecurity risk assessments, compliance reviews, and internal control evaluations across diverse industries. Dimitris collaborates with IT teams to identify vulnerabilities, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement robust cybersecurity measures. His expertise extends to fraud investigations, financial damage assessments, and litigation support. He has worked with clients in education, healthcare, manufacturing, and other sectors to strengthen security and enhance operational integrity.
Dimitris earned a BBA in Accounting from Baruch College. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and holds a Certificate in Cybersecurity Audits from ISACA.
Dimitris serves as the Vice President of Membership for the Long Island Chapter of the ACFE. Dimitris is actively involved in education, training, and research, contributing to the advancement of industry knowledge. He has co-authored articles published in the CPA Journal, regularly presents at IIA Long Island Chapter, GFOA, LIACFE, and ACUA Conferences, and develops original content for Nawrocki Smith’s cybersecurity, internal control, anti-fraud, and data analytics training programs.
